Audra McDonald's talents are unmatched in her range of talents and variety as a singer, and actor. Audra McDonald, who won Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was listed as one of the Time magazine's 100 most influential people. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the nation's most prestigious award to recognize achievements in the field. A luminous soprano with an extraordinary talent of telling the truth in a dramatic manner, she is as much comfortable in Broadway and the opera stage as in her film and television roles. In addition to the stage roles, McDonald has earned a name for herself in a professional career that has a substantial recording and concert career. She frequently performs in the most prestigious performances. McDonald was raised in a musically inclined family from Fresno in California. She was a classical singer who received instruction from the Juilliard School of New York. In 1994, a year following her graduation from Juilliard School, she won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a the Musical" for Carousel. The next four years she won two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category, for her roles on performances in the Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's show Master Class (1996) and his musical Ragtime (1998) giving her an unheard of number of Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004 she won her fourth Tony acting alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she received her fifth Tony Award, and her first win in the lead actress category in the role of her lead as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she performed on stage in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. This is identical to the role she performed during her performance in 2017's West End London debut for in which she's been nominated for an Olivier Award. As well as setting the record for most performances that an actor has won in a competition she was also the first actor to be awarded honors across all four categories. Then, in 1999 she costarred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the Disney/ABC television version of Annie. Then, in 2000, she played an recurring role on the NBC show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's first Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO film version of the The Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. McDonald received a nomination for a fourth Emmy in 2016, for her role in HBO's movie in the series Lady Day, at Emerson's Bar & Grill. McDonald starred along with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed show co-produced through Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. She starred in 2009 as she played U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence in CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In 2018 McDonald took on the role of Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She got three Critics Choice Award nods for her performance. She appears as a special character on the HBO series The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
